I do.
I found these installed on a brand new C7 in my commuter garage back in March.
As dangerous and silly as tinted lights are, the one good thing about this mod is that (in the past) the owners usually had to buy a new set, or tint them themselves, so it was relatively rare.
After I saw these, I was a little disappointed to see how easy it had become. This was a brand-new car. Curious to see how much they were, I found the vendor.
Add a stealthy and sleek look with these
exclusive Corvette Mods blackout tail light covers. Each of our kits are
made using smoked 1/16" acrylic. The unique look of these covers will
take your Corvette from intimidating to menacing.
Each acrylic
lens fits over the entire tail light assembly inside of the trim bezel.
No removal is required. 100% peel and stick.
Not wanting him to be rear-ended in his brand-new Corvette, I did what I could.
It took four months, but it worked. I had been worrying about this poor Corvette for months, and was finally able to get a good night’s sleep.
I should leave him a thank you note.

I think they are a really dumb idea, that being said, slightly gray tinted tail lights do look really good on both the gray, blue, and white Subaru BRZ’s.

You are a true hero. Please leave a thank you note

oh god I hate when people tint their lights so dark they become invisible.
I’m normally against capricious and violent behavior by police officers, but in this one specific instance I wouldn’t mind it if they were allowed to pull these idiots over and bust out their excessively-tinted lights with their Mag-Lites.

I had smoked lights (straight from the dealer) on my 06 GTO.
They were the lightest shade probably. My firs and only car to have the smoked tail lights. I think I might do that to my Gray SS.
BTW, sold the GTO 5 years ago, and still have the pic (from rear three quarter) as my desktop. :)
If done correctly, it can turn out tasteful. It’s also dependent on the vehicle color.

I have to admit- I kinda like the look of tinted lenses, but the job’s not done until some brighter bubs are installed to make up for it. Skipping the bulbs is half-assing it.

Like when a dog or child is locked in a hot car, and you can legally break the glass, I wish we could do this with tinted tail lights. It would prevent accidents.

I believe it can be done well, and safely. I’m sure there is a light output requirement, and if met, is acceptable.
If yours were done at the dealer, I’m sure they left the lot meeting that requirement.
It’s the DIY projects I hate. The ones that don’t consider that they need to be SEEN.

I like the look, but don’t like the effect on visibility. If you’re going to install them, please have the courtesy to install some extremely bright bulbs, LED probably, so that the light output is either the same or brighter than the stock configuration. Maybe this guy did that, but you can’t tell when the car is parked.

Haha, well played! :D
Tinited lights I am OK with if it is a VERY light tint, enough to be just noticeable, but dark tinted lights are just plain stupid. Look at me, I’m less visible and less likely to be in / cause an accident!

I think my thank you note will say, “Thank you, these are now bright like lnterns”

I’ve done my own on a couple vehicles and I always stop with the coats so they still reflect red if hit with a light, that seems to keep the tint from being too dark. And the last ones I did, I used a oracal vinyl film. It’s about perfect, still tinted, but the brake lights are still clear as day. On a black car, it’s a must. But has to be done properly. LED tail lights help as well, but on older incandescent brake lights, you have to be cautious. And on my Pacifica, I didn’t tint the CHMSL either, so that one will be nice and bright. I’ve seen some that are really bad, and yes you are correct, that’s a very bad thing.

Oracal 8300 series transparent vinyl in dark grey. That will work well. Not too much, and still tinted. And worse case, you can peel it off.

The previous owner of my C6 tinted all the lights, windows and indicators so people can’t see my lights and I can’t see them. Fortunately the rest of the car is painted an obnoxiously bright color.
But, yeah, it’s annoying AF.

A recent trend I’ve seen on IG is just tinting the outside inch around the tailight. I dig that, add some sleek blackness but doesn’t cover your tailights in the process

I hate them too. It was insanely popular when I was in high school (late 90's). I never understood why, if you love your vehicle so much, you would make it nearly impossible to see when you’re hitting your brakes.

this was a very satisfying story. Thank you.

“Brand new C7" except that’s a 2014 only color. If it’s made it this long with the tail lights dark, I don’t think it needs your help.

I hate the blacked out taillight/headlight trend as it’s nearly caused me to get in an accident on three occasions. But those with a light smoke tint are okay like the option on the new Camaro.

I had no idea. It had 30 day tags, I assumed it was new.
My help is always needed.

Props, Mike. This may be the first time in history that someone was converted away from the idiocy.

Not sure about the idiocy, but this is the second time the post-it notes worked.

Yeah, it’s not what I expected. Not sure how he got “remove and drill” out of those post-it notes.

My guess is: Valintine’s Day, Virginia’s for Lovers, something something, time to do the right thing.
